......Do You Believe in the Magic Behind the Fog?
He was tired of all the put downs on what he could and couldn't do. His own family had told him that he could not amount to anything. He heard many stories about this climb. Some climbers died climbing and some had friends that went on to the other side, but never came back. The friends of these people never went to look for them, they were all too afraid. But as he is reaching the middle part of the cliff, he notices his surroundings. The 18 year old boy had started to climb cliffs that made up most of the island. The weather is quite cold and as he climbed the temperature kept dropping. The island is surrounded by water and the fog seemed to only cover the top. It is slightly mossy and green with rocks everywhere. The mysterious fog seemed to emanate a stench that he could smell from the bottom. It also gave off a feeling.....The type of atmosphere that made a person very irritated. A mysterious fog....
Many scientists and travelers said that no one ever came back because on the other side was the same as the front side, a place where you could easily slip and die. Of course, the way to die was by drowning once a person slipped into the water. It was a great fall. Yet this young man kept climbing. He wanted to prove to everyone that there was something on the other side. This wasn't his initial goal, but he felt hate in his heart because of his family's lack of faith in him. His initial goal was to have some fun on this trip, but he wanted to prove just how much potential he has. He wanted to do this alone. The climb was slightly mossy, he ignored that, but he couldn't ignore...the irony of wanting to be alone.....
"Stop climbing so fast! Babo!!!!" shrieked a girl, almost slipping. She was caught by a second 18 year old guy. Then again, looks like I am not alone. How do you ignore these people? thought the first boy.
"Dude, wait a little. We need to rest before we get to the climax of this trip," said the second boy, "you guys get it? CLIMAX.....Oh come on, it was funny!"
"Bryan, all you get is silence! Now let's rest Johnathan!" whined the girl.
"Fine, a 5 minute break! EVEN THOUGH WE JUST STARTED!" Johnathan yelled sarcastically, definitely annoyed. But what he didn't realize was that they started, an hour ago.
ESTEPHANY |
BABO |
Bryan is quite similar to Johnathan with a funny looking face, that seems mature at the few times he is serious. His features seem almost from Native American origin. He also has a mixture of Middle Eastern and Hispanic features. As he jokes and makes fun of his two best friends, he forms an eye smile. It is in his nature to always have jokes handy in serious situations. Although Babo is serious, he forms a smile when Bryan tells him that this trip is helping him lose weight.
BRYAN |
"Yeah, I want to some real action. And I am terrified of heights, so secure land, please!" Estephany cheers as they stand up and hook themselves properly to start climbing again. Estephany scans the area to make sure nothing is coming at them and she prepares herself for another few more hours of silence.
.......
"I love you!!!!! And I love me, too!" Estephany yells, tired of the hour of silence. Babo and Bryan turn in surprise at one of her outbursts. Then they both chuckle and help her catch up to them, since she is the one way behind. "You are an insane little girl!" laughs Babo. "Let's climb!!" yells Bryan as Babo yells,"POTATOES!!!!" "Who's insane now, boys?!" Estephany giggles and climbs. As Estephany tries to catch up to Bryan with Babo, in the distance he is struggling with his gear!
"Bryan, hey man! Where do you think we should rest?! It's getting dark!" Babo does not notice what happens to Bryan, until Estephany screams.
"Help! I need help, my gear!" Bryan screams and loses some altitude, he is falling slowly....
"Let's move!" Estephany quickly took control of the situation, as Babo just stares. She moved quicker as her friend started to fall faster and his gear/backpack slid of his shoulders. "Babo, hurry!" yells Estephany and wakes Babo up from his state of shock. Estephany has Bryan in her arms and tries to fix his climbing gear that is ripping apart. "Oh my god! What the....?" Babo questions the small metal gear. It has been chewed up by god-knows-what....
They adjust Bryan and climb with him, each wondering about the metal piece. The fog starts to thicken and reeks as the trio make faces, but soon they reach the top. Each person is invisible to the other, the only thing that keeps them together is the cable that holds them together and their joined hands. "This is......POTATOES!" Babo yells to ease up the tension, but Estephany covers his mouth with a face full of fear.
"You Babo...I know what chewed up Bryan's gear. It's not pretty," Estephany and Bryan are frozen in fear. Babo turns his head into the direction that the other two are facing and a creature comes into view. The creature blows the fog to the other side and the view becomes clearer. The creature is the height 8 feet tall and 10 feet long. It is black all over and has wings with white eyes. It also has gruesome and sharp white teeth. It has another metallic item...
"Hey, that's my water bottle!" yells Bryan. "Idiot! We are trapped!" Estephany made it worse. The creature turned towards them and extended its wings to fly up the cliff, hissing loudly. The sound is like a witch's fingernails to a chalkboard. As Estephany and Bryan cover their ears, Babo motions for them to start climbing down and they notice the OTHER SIDE...It is very grassy and filled with trees, but the slide down is not safe. They must lower themselves slowly.
They are halfway down, but the demon creature is already there and tries to grab Babo's arm and scratches it. He starts to bleed and loses balance. He holds onto a rock, hanging onto dear life. "Don't worry man! We are coming!" Bryan reassures him as Estephany smacks the creature with her backpack. Then the creature shows its true and hideous face as it screeches in pain.
demon face |
"SCREEEEEEEEECH!!!!" a sound much worse than the demon that attacked them. Although the creature was going after its prey, it squeaked and left them alone. It took to the sky, higher than the cliff itself. As Bryan hits his head and Estephany lands on her face, Babo slides down expertly. The creature left and abandoned its prey. "Yeah, leave!" Estephany yelled.
"Ow, my head!" exclaimed Bryan. "You guys! Maybe we shouldn't be cheering now," Babo pointed to the forest.
The forest is divided into two halves. One half is dark and brooding with vines hanging, just waiting to entangle a few victims. To contrast it, the other half is shining and beautiful, enough to actually hurt one's sensitive eyes. This is the type of forest that Estephany preferred to walk through. "Plus, there is that sound we heard. We have to be careful. It could be another creature. Probably bigger since that other monster thing fled," Babo said. "Oh well, I always say I like big things. What's wrong with a bigger creature?" Estephany responded. "Did you hit your head!?" Bryan slowly stood up from checking his bleeding leg. Babo grabs Estephany's arm as she closes her eyes. It looks as if she has lost her mind.....
"Babo....I'm having a moment....It is a metaphor of my life."
Babo stared at her quizzically She continued with, 'This side is the sadness of my life, boohoo," she skipped to the dark forest and made a sad face. "And this is the happiness and laughter part. It is much more than my sadness. LOL," Estephany giggled, hoping to ease the tension. She went over to the light side, humming as Babo laughed. "Seriously! LOL? HAHAHAHAHA," Babo chuckled.
"You guys, this is serious. We are bleeding and dirty. I don't think we should be here. Let's go back," pleaded Bryan. "Well, aren't you the voice of reason for once?" murmured Estephany while Babo stared into the dark forest. There had to be some reason as to why they lived and why so many did not. The forest attracted his full attention, even as Estephany pushed him to get his attention.
"You! BABO!! Let's sleep on the light side, its getting darker on both sides. Even though..." she trailed off. "Uh, right. Whatever you want, let's go to sleep. It has been a hard day for us," Babo took off his blue backpack. Their sleeping bags were laid out, when Babo noticed Bryan poking his leg. "Dude, don't poke it! Did it stop bleeding?" asked Babo.
Estephany runs over to him with a rag for the blood. "Hold still, the peroxide on this should help a little. I got a few scratches and this helped. Here Babo, you too."
They all applied the peroxide and an ointment Estephany had in her First aid kit. They took off their jackets and tied them around their waists. The light side is filled with warmth and lovely smells, especially compared to the fog at the top of the cliff that remains there. That thing, demon, is probably going to come back. Last time, it was on the dark side, so we picked the right spot. The trio picked a hidden spot off the trail on the light side beside a great tree.
"Look, I need to sleep, too!"
"Yeah! Well, you shouldn't have let go of your backpack back there!"
"That's it! I'll show you why you are called BABO!!!" Bryan charged at Babo. Estephany, at a daze, watched the fight. Bryan punched Babo's face while he kept kicking him. Bryan swung and missed when Babo moved back. Babo was able to land a punch to Bryan's chest, but as he tried again Babo was stopped by Bryan's foot. Idiots! "Stop fighting! What the heck!!!? We are all friends here!" Estephany pushed them both on the ground. "You are not sleeping near me," she pointed to Bryan and turned to Babo, "And you have to help him out! Stop fighting before I kick both your butts!" With that she went to sleep near her side of the tree.
The next morning has come for the trio. Bryan slept with comfort in his Babo-made bed full of leaves and scented flowers. Estephany had a dream of the light side being filled with unicorns and rainbows.
"WAKE UP BABO AND BRYAN!! TIME TO HUNT FOR BREAKFAST!!" yelled Estephany. Despite the fact that they were dirty and stinky, Estephany woke up normally. "UHHH, 5 more minutes, mom!" groaned Bryan. "I am not your mother! Now hurry up. I can't do this alone, Hwayoung taught you how to hunt as well!" responded Estephany as the boys got their gear together. They put their sleeping bags around the branches of their tree.
......TWO HOURS LATER....
"Are you sure there isn't any game? I am hungry!" complained Estephany. The gang could not get any game. There was no sort of animal in the forest. "Hwayoung taught us how to hunt! There is no game anyway!" Bryan responded with an angry face. "Yeah, well I wish she was here. Why didn't she come!?" Estephany sat on a rock. "Because her parents grounded her!" answered Babo. Then a figure appeared...
"Silly humans! How are you going to get any game with no living animal in this forest!" chuckled a three-eyed demon. Besides the third eye, he looked quite human with a height of only 4 foot, 6 inches. "So, where do we look, then?" asked Estephany. "Have you never heard of 'don't talk to strangers.' And what is up with your extra eye?" asked Bryan. "You are contradicting yourself, Bryan. Look, we need help and you look like a nice guy. Can you help us out?"
"I am not nice! I..I...I refuse to help you. I am a dangerous level 10 demon. One of the strongest in this world. I can easily crack your bones and set you on fire, little girl!" yelled the demon.
"OK, OK. We will just look for some game somewhere else. Thanks, stranger!" Estephany turns.
"She is clueless! My knees are shaking! Did she not see the actual fire that came from his fists?" whispered Babo to Bryan. The demon stopped them with a fireball and Estephany shrieked.
"Now are you scared, little girl? It is not safe around here and if you turn back, you will die! Just like the others as well!"
"Yeah, I know the dragon is going to come back! I saw that its n...nest was right next to the dark side. But if that doesn't kill us, what will? You w..won't either!" her voice shook with fear.
"That is true! Why else would we still be alive? You say you can kill us, but you haven't. So ARE you going to help us?" questioned Babo. Babo felt that Estephany was getting frightened, so he tried his best to defend her....in a way.
"OK. I will help you! But to prove that you are worthy of my help, one of you must fight me!" the demon chuckled as he saw the group's shocked faces. At that moment he drew a sword that shines a bright blue. The sound of coming out its sheath scared Bryan and his voice cracks as he tries to speak. "B...Bu. You can't make us fight you, you are a demon-thing!"
"My name is Hiei and I am the Swords-Master of Flames. This is the Forest of the Demon World. I am a demon of this forest of 'light.' Here's some advice: If you want to leave this forest, with my help, then I suggest you get on my good side. In other words, OBEY ME!" As Hiei said this, the forest changed and the temperature rose. It was burning hot and there was fire everywhere, but nothing was truly burning.
"Here is a sword! Another secret for you: The reason you humans never live to tell of this side of the island, the Demon World, is because you kill each other off. We, demons, sometimes don't even get to kill you because you are already murdering each other. The moment you crossed the border of the fog with that Demon-Dragon was the moment you inhaled the deadly FOG. Even the best of friends have killed each other off because they have fought over meaningless things. The fog gives you a temper AND supernatural strength and awareness. The dragon went after all of you at full speed, yet you were able to see it and actually hurt it. This is your positive side, of course with great strength, it is easier to kill each other. I will help you because you are my pets. I will enjoy watching you torture and kill each other. THAT is why I will help you. Plus, the look on that boy's face amuses me," he pointed to Bryan with a grin.
Bryan's face was deadly pale until the demon pointed at him. He turned red in embarrassment and picked up the sword Hiei threw on the floor. Even though the odds are against him, the boy charges at the demon. He swung the sword and missed by a mile when Hiei ducked. Hiei turns his body to the left after he ducked, kicking Bryan in the process. Bryan lands on his back and stays there, out of breath. He sees that he does not have long because Hiei tries to stab him. Bryan blocks it with his sword and, surprisingly, is strong enough to push the murderous demon back. Hiei grins and aims once again for his prey, this time causing Bryan to trip over Hiei's sword attack (to the ground). "This isn't fair, he can't fight!" yelled Estephany. This offends Bryan and he runs to her, she runs away. He misses and goes for her a second time. Babo notices a stack of swords just laying there, circled by fire.
He picks up the flaming red one (the 4th one, going left to right) and blocks Bryan's second attack. "Dude, you are supposed to be fighting the bad guy!" yells Babo. "Yeah. I could do a better job than you!" Estephany yells, guarded by Babo. There is always a competition between these two, with Babo being in the middle once again. "Bad guy? Can't you see that you are the bad guys!" chuckled Hiei. Estephany starts to get impatient and the FOG seems to influence the tempers of the trio. They all charge with swords from the circle. They trap him with each swipe and swing, until he crashes into one of his own fire walls. With his sword on the ground, Hiei gets down on his knees. He is bowing and the Fire Forest turns into the Dark Forest.
"So, that was an illusion?" asks Estephany. "Yes. Now I see, you three are different from the blood-thirsty humans that usually come here. I admit defeat and will help you. Do not think I cannot still kill you, I can! But I have to warn you that your self-control won't last long. We have to send you home quickly," Hiei is whispering. Babo looks at him and he hears another screech, identical to the one that scared the Demon-Dragon.
Estephany gets goosebumps and hugs her two friends. "Don't worry....We want to leave and LIVE. We won't kill each other, we will follow you...After we get our stuff from the tree," Estephany whispered. Hiei frowns and shakes his head no. "No, you go back now and you die. This forest is and illusion that will mislead you. You entered into a beautiful forest, but you will leave a maze full of sins. Sins that this forest commits. Murders," as he said this, the vines slithered all around them. "Let's go now!" The four of them run from the villainous vines.
After what seemed an eternity for Estephany, she sat on a rock. "Why aren't we out yet!? I mean we survived each other...We are friends! Best friends!" Estephany screamed at the top of her lungs. "Shut up! We don't want to attract any attention!" hissed Hiei. Babo helps Estephany get up and walk. This was abnormal even for her, Babo knew this. Then, a slight and low rustle in the trees. With supernatural awareness/hearing, the four of them were able to hear this. Babo turned his head to face, yet another figure. The rustling did not sound like the vines....
"Hiei.." the voice noted and the voice's owner aimed for Babo. Babo notices this and grabs for his sword hanging from his backpack. He fought back, until Hiei broke the fight with two fireballs aimed for the other demon. He is dressed in black pants, a black camisole with a white vest, a brown belt, black gloves and a black sword. the sword is darker than night itself and powerful. The power seems to seep through the metal because it glows a dark, purple color. The leaves create a circle around him, almost as if on command...
"Hmm. You are not supposed to be this powerful. Looks like Hiei has found a powerful bunch," turning to Hiei, he says, "Did you know that their friend is named Hwayoung?" With that Hiei turns to the trio of humans. "Your friend is Hwayoung? How?" asks Hiei, dropping his sword.
"She is one of our friends. She helped us learn how to hunt and she helped me organize the whole trip for Babo. How do YOU know her? She has never been here before. Has she?" Estephany answered, saying more than she should have. "A Korean girl with short hair and skills that are above average. That is who you want right, Hiei?" mocked the demon.
"You are right!" exclaimed Bryan, staring at the demon boy. "My name is Gamgoth. I am another demon. I am the Demon of the Dark Forest of the Demon World... I am going to kill you!?" Surprising all of them, he charged for Estephany. She grabs her sword and smacks him with the tip of the handle. "Long title, dont you think?" she exlaimed. She is faster than this demon and he is slower than Hiei was with the trio. He is obviously easier to fight, but the vines are also in his command. They grab Estephany's leg and she is upside down, swinging aimlessly at her target. And missing. "Quit it! Let me hit you! And Hiei! Answer my question. Has Hwayoung been here before?" Estephany shrieks as Bryan tries to fight the demon as well. All Hiei does is watch.
"He said he would enjoy this, Hiei won't help. Bryan...the vines!" Babo realized that the vines were under the Gamgoth's control. They cut off all vines that are just hanging around and make sure that they are nowhere near them. This caused the demon to shriek and make a horrible face. "You idiots! This does not help you!" he shrieks and goes for Babo. Estephany falls on her head as Babo cuts her loose. Babo swings and comes in contact with the demon's sword. The fight begins. Each time Babo's sword contacted the Dark Blade, smoke would go up into the air. The forest changed once again, there was pitch darkness. The only people or things visible are the humans, the demons, and their swords. No more vines....
Babo seems to know what he is doing and Hiei just watches them as Bryan joins Babo. They swing and use their teamwork to trap him more than once. "The only reason you are not dead is because you keep jumping around!" yelled Estephany raising her sword. "Little girl! It is called dodging, but fine!" He landed in the middle of the trio. "What is with you demons and calling me a little girl? You don't call them little boys! This makes you sound like a creep!" hisses Estephany. Then, the trio sees their opportunity when Estephany distracts the demon with her question. They all say, "Big mistake!" and plunge for the demon's upper body. He doesn't move because of this clever surprise and when the blades go into his body, he disappears. But not before he shows a scary and terrifying face!
"Demons disappear when they die and reappear 2 weeks later. Let us keep moving. If he was here, then it is because we are close," without an emotion Hiei walked. Estephany tries to press for details on some information on her best friend, but Babo quells her questions and they walk.
"So where are we going, little demon boy?" asks Estephany while Bryan laughs and Babo grins. Hiei scowls at her and says, "There is a transportation device that will lead you to the other side, where your boat is and you will leave safely. But I have changed my mind..." Hiei turns to Estephany hungrily...
"Quit looking at me like that!"
"What change of plans?" asks Babo. Hiei faces him and says, "I am coming with you."
The four of them continue until they see glowing metallic plates, exactly four of them. The transportation devices were on the floor, as if someone laid it out for them. "They know we are here! Run to the Plates!" yells Hiei, heading for a plate to their left. At the same time, the three humans ran for the plate that was on their right, with two more in the middle.
"Hey, back off boys," Estephany pushed the bigger boys.
"Move your butt!" Babo pushed Bryan and he fell.
They started to have a sword fight as Estephany drew her sword.
"No! You idiots! Stop!" Hiei yelled.
Estephany hit Babo in his stomach, causing him to grunt and trip Bryan. She took this chance to bash his head to the sword's hilt. Babo kicked Bryan off his leg and aimed for Estephany's arm with his sword's hilt. He managed to scratch her face. Bryan punches Babo and they roll around on the ground. Estephany joins them and that is their fight. Estephany is being punched in the stomach by Babo and Bryan pulls her hair when they hear a screech for the third time during their whole trip.
hilt of swords |
"You guys! I am sorry for hurting you! This trip has helped me realize that I need you!" Babo shouted.
"I told you we were friends! Why do you think we came along!" Estephany responded.
"Yeah, Babo! Don't you worry about a thing! We forgive you!" yelled Bryan.
"Transport us four. Back to 'their' before! Before it all, so I can be tall!" chanted Hiei three times. The humans, bewildered with this chant just laugh. Then an immense amount of energy, originating from the floor, rose up. Their shirts lifted and they were lifted off the ground. The last thing they saw was a large dragon and they landed. Next to their boat, with Hiei, ready for their departure and a stronger friendship....
(I am thinking of a sequel to this fabulous adventure with their mysterious friend, Hwayoung! Comment and tell me if I should continue! I don't know if its that good!)
