Hyperboles....Can You Find One?
A hyperbole is something that stretches the truth in a sentence. It can be very silly and extreme. It can be a simile or a metaphor, but exaggerated. It is an important part of writing because it makes everything sound interesting. It engages the reader and helps the reader understand any feeling that a character feels. For Example: When a character says,"I am hotter than fire. I have a horrible fever." This helps me imagine how sick the character is and helps determine if the character is sick at all. Hyperboles give exaggerations and make a story or a piece of literature comedic and funny.
First a modern type of poetry, a song named Fiction by the K-POP group named BEAST.
(I am so sorry, I know I get annoying with K-POP, but it is very hard to find songs and modern poetry with hyperboles. There are other literary tools and uses, but this is what I could come up with, so bear with me. These are the correct translations. Thank you. Enjoy!)
FICTION BY BEAST:
[DJ] I still can’t forget you
I still can’t trust everything
Even today I can’t send you away like this

[JH] I will rewrite it again, our story will not end
I will bury the fact that reality is seeping into my skin for now
I rewrite it once again, the start beginning with you and I smiling happily
In case you will leave me, the background is a small room without an exit.

JUST TO BE SURE HERE IS T-ARA WITH HOLIDAY: (IN CASE THE SONG BEFORE IS NOT ENOUGH)
Holi holi day
Dduddu ddururu dduddu ddururu dduddu ddururu
Loney loney day
Dduddu ddururu dduddu ddururu dduddu ddururu
I spend the day mindlessly, busy running a rat race
Being busy makes me feel better because i don’t think about anything else,
Days like this are more comfortable
Being busy makes me feel better because i don’t think about anything else,
Days like this are more comfortable
(oooh oooh)
Today is a holiday so tears keep falling
(oooh oooh)
Because i keep seeing your face
Today is a holiday so tears keep falling
(oooh oooh)
Because i keep seeing your face
Holi holi day holi holi holi day
I think of you holi holi day
Loney loney day loney loney loney day
Tears fall because i miss you holi holi day
I think of you holi holi day
Loney loney day loney loney loney day
Tears fall because i miss you holi holi day
Dduddu ddururu dduddu ddururu dduddu ddururu
Loney loney day
Dduddu ddururu dduddu ddururu dduddu ddururu
Loney loney day
Dduddu ddururu dduddu ddururu dduddu ddururu
I don’t want to stay home and i think but there’s no one to meet
Being alone feels better – i’ve never thought of anyone but you
Being alone feels better – i’ve never thought of anyone but you
(oooh oooh)
Today is a holiday so i’m already worried
(oooh oooh)
Because i keep seeing your face
Today is a holiday so i’m already worried
(oooh oooh)
Because i keep seeing your face
I can’t sleep for a few days and nights, i can’t sleep even when day breaks
You you you linger around me, more more more the scars grow
You know me? You know my heart? Can’t you hear me call out to you boy?
Come back to that place (come on) come back to my side uh
You you you linger around me, more more more the scars grow
You know me? You know my heart? Can’t you hear me call out to you boy?
Come back to that place (come on) come back to my side uh
Holi holi day
Now a classical poem by Robert Frost...:Acquainted with the Night
I have been one acquainted with the night.
I have walked out in rain -- and back in rain.
I have outwalked the furthest city light.
I have looked down the saddest city lane.
I have passed by the watchman on his beat
And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain.
When far away an interrupted cry
Came over houses from another street,
But not to call me back or say good-bye;
And further still at an unearthly height,A luminary clock against the sky
Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right.
I have been one acquainted with the night.
Robert Frost
All that is highlighted are hyperboles. Many do not seem like hyperboles, but you have to remember that they are exaggerations.
The tone of the second poem/song is sad, but lost as well. The tone is lost because the girl can't do anything without her love. The mood is, again, sad or sorrow because there are many who believe that they can't do anything without the love of a human being. (How convenient is it to have 2 love songs? Again sorry!)
The song is about a girl who loses her love and tries to fall into a daily routine of being busy and exaggerates how being busy is better than not being tired (she would rather be tired). Also, how she cannot sleep and how it feels like a holiday when she thinks of HIM.
The tone of the third poem by Robert Frost is kind of nonchalant and dull. The poem is about being used to the night, where this person has been around the night for so long that they are used to it. It is like being used to darkness and when the light comes, it is by surprise. The mood it gives off is not sad, but not happy. It is in a way indifferent, but it makes the reader curious about "the night." "The night" is a metaphor and it makes the reader wonder.
