Similes are comparisons using the words "like" or "as." They compare two unlike things. The comparisons can be hyperboles at the same time because similes tend to exaggerate as well. An example is: She is as fast as a cheetah. 
Similes are important to writing because they are another literary device that make pieces of literature interesting. Similes compare two things or items and gives the reader hints on the what the writer is talking about. Similes can also help in describing what a character sees by making comparisons.

The tone of this song is calm and earnest when both narrators decide to tell each other to love like money and cars (ect.). The mood is sad because the girl can't trust her "man." The guy wants her to trust him and he tries to explain. The meaning of the poem has to do with loving someone a certain way. Since this world is so materialistic, "love" goes to material things. So they say to "Love me like money. Love me like cars." This tells a person's loved one to love him/her more like the materials they love.

Metaphors are another way to make comparisons between two unlike things, but they are done without the use of "like" or "as." Metaphors can be used to describe anything. For Example: Naomi is a diamond. I compare a girl named Naomi with a diamond without the use of "like" or "as." Metaphors are important to writing because they help make comparisons and descriptions for literary works. They do the same as similes only they don't use "like" or "as."
